Bembridge Bonfire : Ollie Coleman

I love Wight

By Gavin Ellis of Woking

Let me always be in the place I love

With only the clouds high above

Let me keep forever in my memories

The shining sun and rustling trees

Home

By Eleanor MacGregor – (aged 13) of Bromley

All that can be heard up here

Is the sound of the sea

Against the side of the ferry,

As I melt away into the scenery

The Isle of Wight

By Samantha Ayers of Bedford

As I arrive on the Isle of Wight,

The sun comes out – it’s very bright.

The sea is blue and crystal clear,

Oh what a sheer delight.

A fool’s Errand

By Edward Lyon of Sandown

“All aboard. The ferry’s leaving.”
Departing, heavy hearts are heaving.
Goodbye Isle of Wight. We hate to go,
But foreign parts, they beckon so.

Summer land

By Sarah Thelwall of Wells – Somerset

Leave the mainland, cross the sea
To the Isle of Wight.
Past-country lanes,
Gabled houses, seaward.

A late November day (Ventnor 2007)

By Ann Wyatt of Hawley in Kent

The sun rose early,
Welcome, but unexpected.
Warm fingers reaching out
To caress a cooling earth –

The Isle of Wight

By Margaret Cave of Slough

All aboard the Isle of Wight ferry
The cars queue in line, the children get merry.
We soon set sail for this pretty isle
Towns with names that make you smile.

The Island I love

By Jason George of Romford

ABecause the island’s in easy reach,
We love to visit every year,
Relaxing on a sandy beach
And a casual stroll up the pier.

Our thanks to Leonie, Samantha

and Amanda for their poems.
